This so-called "act" as it currently exists is, to put it mildly, a joke. It has not made a dent in the amount of spam I currently recieve. The fact that California's proposed law was hurriedly pre-empted by current members of congress says it all; the spammer lobby wrote and paid for this bill. Two things that would do away with spam once and for all are: 1. The individual right to sue and stiff fines for spammers. and 2. Rather than opt-out provisions, substitute OPT-IN! There is no sensible reason why opt-in should not be the rule here. The fact that it is not reflects the spammers influence over current members of congress.
