Abstract:This teacher's edition presents a chronological adaptation and extension of the classic text, "The Writing Road to Reading" by Romalda and Walter Spalding, to teach a practical, step-by-step language arts instruction which integrates all of the language strands. The method described in the book uses non-consumable teacher materials, direct instruction, and a multi-sensory methodology for primary, English-as-a-Second-Language, and remedial students. After a foreword by Michael S. Brunner and an introduction, chapters in the book are (1) An "Overview"--Scope and Sequence; (2) Managing the Classroom, Motivating the Student; (3) Testing; (4) Teaching Handwriting and the First 26 Phonograms; (5) Preparation of "The Notebook"--Continue Phonograms; (6) Introducing the Extended Ayres List; and (7) School Administrator's Section: Whole Language with a History of Success. An appendix presents spelling rules, prefixes and suffixes, Latin and Greek roots, a spelling chart, a phonogram mastery chart, hints on pronunciation for foreigners, a course syllabus, and 10 commonly asked inservice questions and answers.
