  Comment: Frost (2000) states "The status of this taxon is controversial, with some workers regarding Rana fisheri (extinct) as conspecific with Rana onca, and others who regard Rana fisheri as most closely related to Rana chiricahuensis, with the name Rana onca applying to a non-Rana chiricahuensis group taxon"
