3.23.2. Basic operation - adding/removing granules, rotating map display

[Home] [Prev] [Next] [Up] [Index]

[Top] Showing more or fewer granules>

If you select or deselect more granules in the granule list below the coverage map display and then click the "Show map coverage" button at the top of the page, those granules will be added or removed from the display.

[Top] Map rotation

You can use the four arrows directly to rotate the map left, right, up, or down. The amount of rotation is controlled by the "Rotate Map By" pulldown. You can vary the amount in various increments from as little as 1 to as much as 90 degrees, with a default rotation of 45 degrees.

Clicking on the arrows will cause the map to be updated with the new rotation.

[Top] Zoom

You can zoom in up to 16x on the current center point using the "Zoom To" pulldown. The default zoom is 1x (that is, no magnification). Remember that you will probably want to decrease the rotation amount if you want to rotate the map after zooming in, and to increase it after zooming out.

You will need to click the "Redraw Map" button after changing the zoom to get the map to redraw.

[Top] Grid increment

You can change the grid increment to be larger or smaller (or even to not be there at all!) with the "Grid increment" control.

You will need to click the "Redraw Map" button after changing the grid increment to get the map to redraw.

[Top] Grid Labeling

By default, the gridlines are labelled with the latitude and longitude (e.g., "40E", "20S"). You can turn this on or off with the "Grid Labeling" control.

You will need to click the "Redraw Map" button after changing the grid labeling to get the map to redraw.

[Top] Block Numbering

For certain types of data, you can turn block numbering on or off. If this doesn't mean anything to you, your data doesn't use it (and the control won't be present).

The "Block Numbering" button is a toggle, which is initially off and reads "Show Block Numbering". If you click it, the block numbering will be shown on the map, and the button will change to read "Hide Block Numbering".

The button causes the map to be updated directly; you don't need to click "Redraw Map" after clicking it.

[Top] Center point

A map center latitude and longitude are displayed to show the current center of the orthographic map. You can aler these values and click "Redraw map" to change the center point to whatever (valid) values you wish.

You must click "Redraw map" to have any new values you enter be accepted (and for the map to redraw).
