The Family Health and AIDS (FHA) project has had unusually high success
with it Gold Circle (GO) Campaigns in three demonstration countries
- Cameroon, Togo, and Burkina Faso. In 2001, it collected data about
exposure to the campaign and its positive association with psychosocial
(ideational) factors such as approval of Family Planning (FP), discussion
of FP with spouses or friends, and personal advocacy for FP. In FY01,
GO campaign exposure in Togo was measured at 30% of women nation-wide,
and 60% of women in the major cities of Ouaga and Bobo-Dioulasso in
Burkina. In both of these countries, we note a significant positive
association between exposure to the campaign and approval for family
planning, discussion with spouses, and encouraging others to use family
planning services. Moreover, exposure to the campaign has been positively
associated with modern contraceptive use.
