Legislative memorial lauds Los Alamos, Sandia national labs

A memorial introduced Wednesday in the New Mexico Legislature recognized the importance of scientific research and development programs at Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories. "Science Benefiting New Mexico and the Nation" was the theme of Lab Day at the Legislature; the memorial noted the contributions of Los Alamos and Sandia to the nation's security post-Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial also described the labs as being among the "finest multi-program scientific research laboratories in the world." The memorial was sponsored in the House by Rep. Jeannette Wallace, R-Los Alamos, Sandoval, seated talking with Rich Marquez, right, associate director for administration, and Leonard Martinez, a Sandia National Laboratories vice president. Rep. Nick Salazar, D-Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe and Taos, Speaker of the House Ben Lujan, D-Santa Fe, and Rep. Debbie Rodella, D-Rio Arriba, Sandoval and Taos were co-sponsors of the memorial in the House. Sen. Roman Maes, D-Santa Fe, sponsored the memorial in the Senate. Sen. Manny Aragon, D-Bernalillo, Valencia, and Sen. Richard Martinez, D-Rio Arriba, Los Alamos and Sandoval, also expressed support for the two national labs.
