HARVARD MEDiCAL SCHDDL THEDEPARTMENTOFPHARMACOLOGY i3S S"AlT"CK ST., RDSTON 16, YASS. February 19, 1949 Dr. Joshua Lederberg Department of Genetics University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture Madison 6, Wisconsin Dear Doctor Lederberg: I am ver;; sorry for the long delay in replying to your letter of December 14. Our secretary, who sent out the reprints you requested, evidently misplaced the letter and only returned it to me yesterday. The only treatment of Lineweaver-Burk equations of which I am aware, that develops a unique statistical treatment occurs in an addendum to an article in the Journal of Pharmacolom and Experimental Therapeutics in the late 30's or early 40's. I am sorry to say, however, that I cannot locate the reference and have not had time to thumb through the issues of those years to.Idiscover it again. It impressed me on first reading because it was the only discussion I had noticed that took serious account of the inadequacies of the simple Lineweaver-Burk treatment and the difficulties of properly weighting the points. I am sorry I can not be more helpful. Sincerely yours, Avram Goldstein P.S. I have located the article in question and am afraid it is not, after all, what you are after. It is an Appendix by H.F. Dorn, to the artic&e by C.18 Wight and J.C. Sabine in J.Pharm.Xxp.Thcrap. 78: 375. 1943.
