William Jefferson Clinton
President of the United States

William Jefferson Clinton is the 42nd President of the United States of America. He was sworn in on January 20, 1993. On January 20, 1997, he was sworn in for a second term, making him the first Democratic president in 60 years to win two terms of office.

A fifth-generation Arkansan, President Clinton was born in Hope, Arkansas, in 1946. Inspired by the work of his heroes, John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Clinton resolved to become active in public service. He earned a B.S. degree in International Affairs at Georgetown University. After finishing college in 1968, Clinton won a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University in England. Upon his return to the United States, he began law school at Yale University, where he met his future wife, Hillary Rodham.

When he graduated from law school in 1973 President Clinton returned to Arkansas to teach law at the university of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was elected Attorney General of Arkansas in 1976. Two years later, at the age of thirty-two, he became the youngest governor in the United States, and was re-elected four more times. In 1992, Clinton began his successful campaign for President.

President Clinton is married to Hilary Rodham Clinton, and together they have a daughter, Chelsea.
