The main purpose of this Build is to integrate the Spanish text to speech capability into the VIP existing US English male/female voice design. The VIP installation Setup Wizard allows only licensed sites to use the new Spanish voice. The VIP Setup Wizard will not allow any other sites to use the Spanish voice. The software has undergone a successful three-week System Integration Test and a successful three-week System Acceptance Test at NWSHQ. Additionally, a successful 4-week Operational Acceptance Test was performed at MFL, SJU, and SGX. Additional testing has been successfully performed at the Training Center. Please note that on May 14, 2003 a Password Change Day Policy was distributed as part of Maintenance Note 58. Sites have until May 29 to change their passwords using the guidelines defined in the policy. Because the new Red Hat Linux version 7.3 operating system that is being installed as part of the VIP 3.0.1 delivery package includes password checking software, all sites must ensure compliance with the new password policy prior to performing the CRS Build 9.0/VIP 3.0.1 software installation. The following media will be included in the delivery package: 1. CRS Build 9.0 Installation CD - This is the standard CD that is used to install the software as instructed in the software note described below. Also, this CD will include a pdf version of the Build 9.0 version of the Site Operator's Manual (SOM). As was agreed to previously, we will no longer provide hard copy versions of the SOM. Sites may access the SOM from their Windows PC and print it if they wish. The same PDF version will also be available via the CRS Web Site. For approximately another year, sites may also obtain a hard copy version of the SOM from the NLSC in Kansas City using the following stock numbers: NSN: NWSO-31-340-0003 ASN: XMISC-31 After this time, hard copies will no longer be available. This CD will also include a PDF version of the latest version of the VIP User's Guide. 2. 7 VIP OS Restore CDs. The VIP operating system is being upgraded from Red Hat Linux version 7.1 to 7.3 to accommodate the new voices. Therefore, the OS Restore CDs are being modified and will be used for the installation as described in the software note. The four old OS Restore CDs are being replaced with seven new CDs. These contain the hard disk image including both the Operating System and the VIP application. Sites already have in their possession the 3 OS Restore diskettes. The first two contain the Power Quest disk imaging software used during the installation, and the third is a bootable diskette. Two new bootable diskettes are needed for the VIP 3.0.1 software. Disk images of these and the two Power Quest diskettes are contained on CD #7 in the OS Restore CD package. As part of the VIP installation procedure, sites will be instructed to create the two new bootable diskettes. THE DEADLINE FOR COMPLETING THE INSTALLATION IS COB JULY 7, 2003. Please note that as with previous software build upgrades, once a site has upgraded to the new software builds, it should not revert to an earlier CRS or VIP build. If a site believes it has suffered an operational degradation as a result of the new builds, it should contact the CRS Help Desk to rectify the problem and, if the Help Desk deems necessary, return to an earlier build. Sites should never attempt to revert to an earlier build without direct assistance from the CRS Help Desk. Please forward the e-mail to each of your site's CRS focal points.
