This page includes the most common species of erect filamentous attached algae which form a 'lawn' on the lake bottom or on subsurface structures. All are green algae. The largest macrophytic algae (seaweeds) are not included in this page. Broken pieces of these species are commonly found in floating mats and washed up on beaches.
