Changes in vegetation cover between 1954 and 1963 on Frijolito Mesa in Bandelier National Monument. The figure illustrates persistent ponderosa pine forest, persistent piñon-juniper woodland, and the ecotone shift zone where forest changed to woodland between 1954 and 1958 due to the death of the overstory ponderosa pine trees.
