Below is a description of each of the three training opportunities we are offering in the series. 1. BUILDING A FRAMEWORK FOR WORKPLACE TEAMS (TEAM CONCEPTS) Participants in this introductory workshop will explore the basic principles of teamwork, team development and team membership. Small group exercises will help participants recognize the value of teamwork. The group will investigate the characteristics of effective teams, identify team behaviors which enhance team performance, recognize types of teams, and analyze the impact of style on workplace teams. Topics include: WHY Work in Teams? WHAT is a Workplace Team? HOW Do Workplace Teams Operate? WHAT If We Become a Team? Who should attend: All those interested in the value of teamwork and learning how teams operate. This is an introductory, overview course. TEAM LEADERS: ARCHITECTS OF WINNING WORK TEAMS (TEAM LEADERSHIP) Team building is a process rather than an event: team leaders are the architects or master designers in the process of building winning work teams. Team leaders communicate strategic direction, facilitate the ongoing development of the team and individual team members, and provide the scaffolding to support team initiatives. This interactive session is designed to equip team leaders with the perspective and skills to lead successful teams. Team leaders across the Department of Interior will have the opportunity to establish a leadership network. They will work collaboratively to solve problems and will share lessons learned and emerging best practices. BUILDING A WINNING TEAM (TEAM EFFECTIVENESS) This highly interactive training initiative offers intact work teams the opportunity to experience the team development process. Modules are designed to encourage participation and team commitment. Individual and team assessment instruments will be used to identify individual contributions and team strengths. In preparation for the session, participating teams will complete a self assessment instrument and a team charter worksheet. During the team building session participants will: * develop a shared purpose * craft a team agreement * use tools for building team consensus * establish team goals * identify critical issues facing their work team The time preceding the follow-up training day allows teams time to practice consensus building tools between sessions, evaluate team progress, and assess team needs for ongoing training and support.
