Notes from South Pole TDRSS Relay (SPTR) Mtg/Telcon held on 11/25/97 Participants: GSFC (450, Eng Team, Fred Gamms, NISN) SP User Rep at GSFC (Troy Ames) MSFC (Kevin Takada) WSC (Jim Edgington) NISN/MSFC ITEMS - MSFC (Kevin Takada) reported the Malabar/NSI conversion is now completed and all users are getting their SP traffic. - Briefly discussed the SP router hook-up for SPTR. Kevin T. will e-mail ASA to obtain the specifics on the interface connection and the routing protocol to be used. The exact way that SPTR is to be configured at SP may have to wait until SPTR equipment arrives at SP and ASA works the router integration at the SP LAN. WSC TDI STATUS - Jim E. reported the first TDI rack has been installed at WSGT and will be powered up today (11/25). There are still some cable issues to be resolved (drawing discrepancies) that Jim E. will work with Mike Moran. - MSFC will provide phone assistance to WSC on how to specifically hook-up the PSCNI interface to the WSGT router. - There is no hurry for the 2nd TDI rack to be shipped to WSC (STGT). We are awaiting the 2nd PTP to complete the subsystem integration. It will probably be January before its shipped. - Kevin Takada will look into getting a host and domain name for SPTR at WSC (IP addresses only have been assigned). WSC will advise MSFC when everything is installed so the initial MSFC IP connectivity tests can be performed. Dave I. and Andre F. also have initial connectivity tests they would like to perform once MSFC tests are completed. - Dave I. will be providing WSC with instructions (e-mail) on how to perform a local RF End-To-End test on the SPTR equipment to verify its operability. - Dave I. has provided the inputs to the ICD via e-mail to Caren Corbett. ENGINEERING TEAM STATUS - Refer to Mike Moran's Eng Status Report (11/24/97) for more details. - Hugh O'Donnell (513) and Kevin Culin (ATSC) have arrived at McMurdo. Kevin's e-mail address (Kevin.D.Culin.1@gsfc.nasa.gov) can be used to contact them at McMurdo or the SP. - All the parts for the S-Band UC/DC/PA subsystem at Miteq are in now and testing has now commenced (no show stoppers yet). A shipping date to GSFC is expected from Miteq on 12/1 (Monday). - Andre F. is re-booking his flight to New Zealand for 12/10. He will also request ASA reserve some additional backup dates in case the UC/DC slips beyond 12/10. - The feasibility of putting together a temporary UC/DC/PA subsystem, similar to the test bed configuration, was discussed for shipment to SP, in case the Miteq equipment could not be delivered. There are problems with equip availability (long term use) and timeliness of getting a temporary subsystem to the SP at this point. It was decided the best alternative was to get the Miteq equipment sent to the SP. - The SPTR S-Band Bandpass Filter (for GOES-3 transmit freq) has been received and will be tested at the RFSOC and then given to Andre for hand carry to SP. - Andre F. reported the SPTR KSAR fileservers are passing data reliably at a 2MB rate and that a minimal error handling routine is now working. The error handling will need to be made more robust which will be worked further here, enroute and at the Pole. - All 3 KSAR encoders were shipped with the SPTR racks. The encoding problem above 10MB may be a hardware issue now (not fast enough) as opposed to an algorithm problem as previously thought. Further tests between 10MB and 30 MB will be performed after SPTR is installed to better isolate the problem. - Dave I. is working with ATSC in Columbia on the two remaining TDI's to ensure their are no data reversal problems with various features disabled before this equipment is sent to WSC. - Tentative plans are being made for Dave I. to be at WSC the week of 12/15 to assist in the SP SPTR checkout phase with plans to stay the week of 12/22, if need be. The WSC Ops crew and one TO&A engineer should be adequate to cover the testing needed. Dave I. will provide a brief test plan (e-mail) outlining the activities. Tri Thai will coordinate any needed resource schedules and BM's as deemed appropriate. OTHER - The DCN for the SPTR OIP MCS software Appendix is about done. - The SP racks arrived New Zealand 11/21. - SPTR will be scheduled on TDRS-1 each day starting on 12/8/97 (roughly the 1600-2100Z time frame during December).
