Thursday, July 10, 2003

WASHINGTON, D. C.--- U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, announced today that the Wetumpka Municipal Airport will receive $350,000 from the Department of Transportation.

This grant will provide funds for runway protection zone land at the airport. This land is needed to remove obstructions near the runway and to improve operational safety at the airport. This project will also provide funds for airport planning to determine its ability to meet future growth and aviation activity in the area.

Sen. Shelby said, “I’m pleased to announce these funds for Wetumpka Municipal Airport. It is an important priority for me that Alabama’s airports are given the needed resources so they may remain safe and convenient for the passengers and pilots who use them.”

This funding comes in part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
