Everlasting

  
     September a harvest moon
     Chrysanthemums, asters, phlox
     The autumnal equinox
     Late-blooming roses cut,
     And nuts from the 
     Butternut

     Leaves of red and gold
     Skies of October blue:
     A season forever new
     A song that will never grow old;
     Before the sun has set
     A lilting canzonet.

     Everlasting - November's bloom
     A delicate dried bouquet
     Promising on a wintry day
     In a warm and firelit room
     That summer is 
     Not forgot.
