Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge |
Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1974 for its particular value in carrying out the national migratory bird management program. The refuge consists of approximately 1667 acres of freshwater marsh, oxbow wetlands and upland habitat. Freshwater and oxbow wetlands along the Nashua River provide habitat for waterfowl and wading birds. Upland habitat supports white-tailed deer, small mammals and migratory and upland birds such as American woodcock and turkey. Twenty state-listed species inhabit the refuge, including Blanding's turtle, blue-spotted salamander, pied-billed grebe and climbing fern.
