Delegation Announces Nomination Deadline

Regional scientific experts can be nominated for National Academy study panel

WASHINGTON, DC – The Idaho Congressional delegation announced today the potential opportunity for scientific and technical experts from Idaho to participate in a study to be performed bythe National Academy of Sciences of the Superfund Site Assessment and Remediation in the Coeurd’Alene River Basin.

The National Academy of Sciences is accepting nominations of individuals who are interested inbeing part of a multidisciplinary committee which will independently evaluate the Coeur d’Alene BasinSuperfund site in northern Idaho as a case study to examine the Environmental Protection Agency’sscientific and technical practices in Superfund site area definition, human and ecological risk assessment,remedial planning and decision making. The study will be conducted over the next 22 - 24 months. Nominations are needed by August 1, 2003.

In order to be selected as a member of the study committee, individuals must be nationallyrecognized experts in one of the following fields: environmental transport of contaminants; waste sitecharacterizations; toxicology; epidemiology; pediatrics; public health; biostatistics; human exposure andrisk assessment; ecological risk assessment; wildlife biology; risk management; waste site remediationtechniques; environmental engineering; government decision making concerning waste site remediation;and decision analysis.
