Export Requirements for Brazil

Eligible/Ineligible Products
  1. Eligible Product
    1. Fresh/frozen pork.
    2. Further processed pork products
    3. Edible products for pharmaceutical or other industrial purposes, other than those of ruminant origin.
    4. Airline Meals - U.S. meat intended for use in meals on airlines for the consumption of the crew and passengers on board international flights may be exported from any U.S. inspected facility.
    5. Gelatin and collagen prepared exclusively from hides and skins.
    6. Protein free tallow.
    7. Pork casings.
  2. Ineligible Product
    1. Ruminant products and sub-products.
    2. Fresh/frozen poultry and poultry products.

Processing/Labeling Requirements
  1. Processing Requirements
    1. Bulk-packed meat products (such as boneless pork meat) must be packaged in plastic (cyrovac or similar material), even if packed in waxed or impermeable boxes.
    2. The production date (date on which the product was prepared) must be identified on the master carton.
  2. The Brazilian government requires the pre-approval of all animal product labels. Label approval is the responsibility of the exporter through his agent (importer or broker in Brazil). The importer usually prepares the required Portuguese translation and submits the labeling along with the required questionnaire to the Brazilian Department of Animal Origin Products Inspection (DIPOA). The following information will need to be supplied to the importer:
    1. name of product,
    2. ingredients, country of origin,
    3. special storage instructions (when necessary)
    4. net weight (in metric units)
    5. date of production (must be identified on master carton), and
    6. expiration date (shelf life, established by the manufacturer)

    Label approval is the responsibility of the exporter through his agent. The importer usually prepares the required Portuguese translation and submits the labeling along with the Label approval can be accomplished through the importer in the Brazil or might be accomplished through consulting firms: The following are presented for information and other firms may be available.     Label submissions are not accepted by the TSC or by direct submission through the U.S. Embassy in Brazil.

Documentation Requirements*
  1. Certification
    1. Meat and Poultry Products - Obtain FSIS Form 9060-5--Export Certificate of Wholesomeness.
    2. Glands for Pharmaceutical Use
      1. Edible product- Obtain FSIS Form 9060-5 (MP-130). Type the following statement in the remarks section "FOR PHARMACEUTICAL USE ONLY".
    3. Pork Casings. Obtain FSIS Form 9060-7, Export Certificate for Animal Casings. In addition a bilingual letterhead certificate is required containing the following certification statements:

      Os envoltórios naturais salgados (tripas) de suínos descritos no certificado no. ____________ são derivados de animais que:
      The natural salted hog casing specified on certificate number ___________derived from animals that:
      1. Nasceram e foram criados em um país livre ou em uma zona livre de febre aftosa, de acordo com o código sanitário dos animais terrestres da organização mundial de saúde animal - OIE / Had been born and had been raised in a country or a zone free of foot-and-mouth disease, as defined by the International Animal Health Code of the Office International des Epizooties - OIE.
      2. Nasceram e foram criados em um país livre de peste bovina, de acordo com o código sanitário dos animais terrestres da organização mundial de saúde animal - OIE / Had been born and raised in a country free of rinderpest, as defined by the International Animal Health Code of the Office International des Epizooties - OIE.
      3. Nasceram e foram criados em um país livre ou em uma zona livre de peste suína clássica, de acordo com o código sanitário dos animais terrestres da organização mundial de saúde animal - OIE / Had been born and raised in a country or zone free of classic swine disease, as defined by the International Animal Health Code of the Office International des Epizooties - OIE.
      4. Nasceram e foram criados em um país livre de peste suína africana e da doença vesicular dos suínos, de acordo com o código sanitário dos animais terrestres da organização mundial de saúde animal - OIE / Had been born and raised in a country free of African swine fever and swine vesicular disease, as defined by the International Animal Health Code of the Office International des Epizooties - OIE.
      5. Nasceram e foram criados nos Estados Unidos e Canadá / Had been born and raised in the United States or Canada.
      6. Foram transportados de acordo com as leis e regulamentos Federais e Estaduais, sem contato com animais que não se enquadram nos itens 1, 2, 3 e 4 acima. / Were transported in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations, with no exposure to animals that do not meet the requirements of 1,2,3 and 4 above.
      7. Foram considerado clinicamente saudáveis em inspeção ante e post mortem, e foram abatidos, processados e estocados em estabelecimentos autorizados pelo USDA. / Were considered clinically healthy after ante and post mortem inspection, and were slaughtered, processed and/or stored in USDA federally authorized establishments.
      8. Não foram sacrificados em consequência de programas de erradicação de enfermidades infecto-contagiosas. / Were not slaughtered to eradicate epizootic diseases.
    4. Airline Meals. Obtain FSIS Form 9060-5. Type the following statement in the "Remarks" section:

      "This product is intended for exclusive use for airline or ship meals."

      Note: Certificates should never be stamped with the export stamp or embossed with a stamp.

    5. Inedible product- Export certification of inedible products, other than technical animal fat (9 CFR 351) and certified pet food (9 CFR 355), is no longer provided by FSIS. Exporters should contact APHIS field offices to obtain information about certification of inedible products. Plants Eligible to Export
  1. Plant Approval
    1. Fresh/frozen red meat and further processed meat and further processed poultry products for export to Brazil must originate from a Brazilian approved facility. All plants approved prior to October, 1998 are eligible to export to Brazil. Applications for plant approval may be submitted using FSIS Form 9080-3 (5/10/00) to the FSIS Office of International Affairs, Import-Export Staff, (202) 720-0082, Fax (202) 720-7990. Plant review by Brazilian (DIPOA) reviewers may be required for approval by Brazil. More information will be provided as it becomes available. The list of eligible plants for Brazil is updated periodically and is available in the FSIS Export Library.
    2. Casings are eligible from any federally inspected establishment.
