Science Forum: “Stem Cells and Future Medicine".
The American Center Alexandria launches this month a new program: “Science Forum”. The program features Egyptian and American speakers working in fields of science and technology to discuss recent and important scientific trends. For our inaugural session, Dr. Mona Marei, Director of Tissue Engineering Laboratories, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University and a graduate of Harvard University, discusses "Stem Cells and Future Medicine".

Literary Forum: Film and Book Discussion: “The Hours”
Dr. Heba Sharoubim, Assistant Professor of English Literature at the Faculty of Education will give an overview of Michael Cunningham's novel: "The Hours". In this novel, Cunningham draws inventively on the life and work of Virginia Woolf to tell the story of a group of contemporary characters who are struggling with the conflicting claims of love and inheritance, hope and despair. The presentation will be followed by a showing of the film version. Starring Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, and Stephen Dillane.

Mona Lisa Smile (2003)

Featuring Julia Roberts, Best Actress Award, 2001. Katherine Watson (Roberts), a recent college graduate, is hired to teach art history at the prestigious all-female Wellesley College in 1953. Determined to confront the outdated values of society and the institution that embraces them, Katherine iinspires her traditional minded students to challenge the lives they are expected to lead. Casablanca (1943)
Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture, Casablanca makes nearly every critic and film lover’s list of the all-time best American films. In World War II Casablanca, Rick Blaine, exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular nightspot in town. The cynical lone wolf Blaine comes into the possession of two valuable letters of transit. When Nazi Major Strasser arrives in Casablanca, the sycophantic police Captain Renault does what he can to please him, including detaining Czech underground leader Victor Laszlo. Much to Rick's surprise, Lazslo arrives with Ilsa, Rick's one time love. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit. A janitor at MIT, Will Hunting (Matt Damon) has a gift for math that can take him light-years beyond his blue-collar roots, but to achieve his dream he must turn his back on the neighborhood and his best friend (Ben Affleck). To complicate matters, two strangers enter the equation: a washed-up shrink (Robin Williams) who starts to coach Will through his transformation, and a medical student (Minnie Driver) who shows him that there can be a pretty face along with his life of the mind. Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Renowned archeologist and expert in the occult, Dr. Indiana Jones, undertakes a quest to locate the lost “Ark of the Covenant”, traversing the Himalayan highlands to the deserts of Egypt in the process. The only thing is, he’s not alone. Jones must outwit a famed French archaeologist in service to the Nazi government also in search of the Ark, convinced as they are of its magical power to guarantee victory. An epic adventure ensues.
