From: FNALD0::JGUIDA Subject: POLICY FOR USING THE D0 ONLINE CLUSTER Date: 31-MAR-1995 13:28:12 Expires: 15-APR-1995 13:28:12 D0 ONLINE CLUSTER POLICY I've heard from some people lately that they are not sure which of the online nodes are available for people doing online development or data/detector monitoring. So I will repeat our policy here for everyone. Nodes used for data taking - NOT available for users: D0HSA, D0HSB, D0HSC, D0HS11 - never log into these nodes D0HS09 - used for TAKERS, TRGMON, L2 VCS and online monitoring by experts D0HS10 - used for HV and L2 verification jobs D0HS12, D0HS13, D0HS16, D0HS17, D0HS18, D0HS19, D0HS01 - used for shift examines D0HS14 - used for detector shift monitoring purposes D0HS06, D0HS08 - used by shifters, TAKERS, TRGMON, (model 38's) L2 VCS, LOGBOOK, etc. - non-shifters may use these nodes for non-cpu intensive work D0HS07 (model 38) - not used for shift duties D0HS15 (model 90) - not used for shift duties - L2 verification batch jobs - DBL3 backups D0HS20 (alpha) - used for online development work So, people doing online development work or detector monitoring should use D0HS07 and D0HS15 (or D0HS20 for alpha development work). They can also use D0HS06 and D0HS08 as long as only one or two people are using these nodes at a time, and all are doing non-CPU intensive work. We STRONGLY DISCOURAGE people running jobs on FNALD0 (or any other cluster), using data on the D0 disks. We will kill any such jobs found impacting data taking. Network file copies should always be done through the node that the disk, containing the file of interest, is locally mounted, NOT using the generic D0::. D0:: should NEVER be used for anything, except possibly sending mail. Jan Guida
