Fly Embryo Images Showing Heart Phenotype Mutation
Fly embryo images showing heart phenotype mutation

An individual dsRNA was injected into the embryo that harbors a beta-galactosidase (ß-gal) marker gene. This gene is expressed in the cardial cells and a subset of ventral muscle founder cells. By X-gal staining followed by monitoring of the ß-gal expression pattern and heart morphology in injected embryos, a cardiogenic gene is identified. Further characterization of the injected embryos by immunostaining with specific antibodies was also performed.

The brightfield image here shows the phenotype resulted from silencing of the gene by an injected dsRNA.
