Anyone who knows Mary Lou Dordan knows the Alaskan woman has an incredible amount of enthusiasm for aviation education. So it came as no surprise when she was named recipient of the Dr. Mervin K. Strickler, JR. award for Aviation Education Excellence by the National Coalition of Aviation Education (NCAE) for her longstanding personal commitment.
Dordan serves as volunteer Director of Aerospace Education for the Civil Air Patrol's (CAP) Alaskan Wing. An employee of the Federal Aviation Administration, she has volunteered with the CAP for 8 years and has been involved in aviation education for more than a decade.
In her role as director, Dordan not only teaches classes, she plans and organizes events for CAP cadets across the state. She develops curricula and works with educators to incorporate aviation studies in their schools. She sponsors scholarships and creates motivational programs for young people.
Mary Anne Thompson, President of the NCAE Board of Directors, enthusiastically praised Ms. Dordan "Mary Lou is an outstanding representative of Dr. Strickler's aviation education high ideals. I have known Mary Lou for a number of years and am so proud that NCAE is able to give her this well-deserved recognition".
The National Coalition for Aviation Education represents governments, industry and aviation special interest groups that promote aviation. In 1995 the organization created the award to honor Dr. Strickler and recognize individuals who share his commitment to aviation education. Ms. Dordan will receive her award March 16 at the NCAE national conference in Minneapolis.
