Stephen N. Wood

Acting Assistant Administrator for Office of Intelligence

Photo of Stephen Wood Stephen N. Wood was appointed Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Intelligence and Analysis in January 2009. He had served as Deputy Assistant Administrator of the office since March 2008. As Acting Assistant Administrator, he has primary responsibility for TSA intelligence policy development and operations associated with U.S. transportation systems. Wood also leads the analysis of intelligence associated with those transportation systems.

Before joining TSA, Wood served 24 years in the U.S. Army. He rose through the Army ranks and, in September 2004, was promoted to Colonel and assigned as Director of Operations J3, Joint Command Network Warfare, National Security Agency (NSA). In this capacity, he led the operations of a Joint Interagency Task Force for Cyber Warfare. Wood has extensive experience in leadership positions in tactical and strategic intelligence, counterterrorism, information operations, computer network operations, interagency and joint operations, and installation management.

Wood also served in a variety of other senior leadership positions in the continental United States and overseas to include: Deputy Mission Manager, Regional Targets, NSA; Director, Technical Intelligence Operations, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command; Commander, U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Monmouth; and Director of Operations, 14 Signals Regiment, Electronic Warfare, British Army, United Kingdom.

He graduated from Georgia Southwestern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science (Summa Cum Laude); graduated from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University with a Master of Science Degree in National Resource Strategy. Wood is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Additionally, he graduated from the Joint Officer Cryptologic Career Program, NSA – a nominative program which professionalizes participants in signals intelligence.
