| For participants with a firm knowledge of elementary level German, this low-intermediate course introduces increasingly complex vocabulary structures and vocabulary while improving the ability to communicate freely in oral and written German. |

Objective
To provide students with an overview of intermediate-level German, and to increase students' oral, written and reading abilities.
Learning Outcome
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to interact more easily in spoken German, identify intermediate-level grammatical structures and have a better understanding of German culture.
Instruction
Major topics covered in the course will include infinitives; imperatives; verbs with separable prefixes; modal auxiliaries; meanings of 'lassen;' future tense; simple past tense; present and past perfect tense; past participles; infinitives with 'zu;' double-infinitive constructions; position of verbs; position of nicht; independent and dependent clauses; conjunctions; uses of als, wenn, wann; um...zu; (an) statt....zu; ohne....zu; nominative forms and uses; accusative forms and uses; nouns indicating nationality and profession; indefinite pronoun man.
Vocabulary topics will include communication; leisure; games; family and culture.
Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, case studies, role playing, problem solving, oral participation/proficiency, quizzes, and mid-term and final examinations.
