Issue: Nowadays the women are in crescent degree of risk to HIV infection through heterosexual relationships, although they do not consider themselves in risk and don't adopt any preventive procedure.Project: BeeHIVe Project is a communitary education program developed with mothers of children who studies at philanthropic daycare centers in Campinas, SP, Brazil. The action is hold by Corsini Center health professionals and HIV-positive women or HIV-positive relatives. Last year, women that had already been assisted were trained to work with the local community (youth, other women and their husbands) multiplying the BeeHIVe Project, with just a Corsini Center supervision. Results: Since 1992, the BeeHIVe Project worked directly with about 500 women, giving them information about sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS, the way to prevent them, their bodies and sexuality, and discussing their rights, citizenship and self-esteem. These women directly transfer the information to their families and community, expanding our results. In the training, the women showed much interest in preparing themselves to the community activities, reinforcing much more their self-esteem.Lessons Learned: The informative/preventive work on AIDS and sexuality with low income women, is very important to reduce the spread of HIV infection because they become one of the most susceptible group to the epidemic. This program must be continuous and with multiplicative effect. The involvement of the daycare center professional is also very important to be sure the program will go on successfully. The HIV+ women or HIV+ relatives participation help us to reduce the pre-concept against HIV persons and make the women/mothers to be conscientious that they are at risk of infection.
