Warden Message: U.S. Citizens Arrested in Overthrow Attempt Against Laos Government

U.S. Embassy Vientiane released the following Warden Message on June 6:

On June 4, 2007, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms arrested nine persons in California based on “suspected violations of the Neutrality Act, the object of which was to engage in the violent overthrow of the sovereign government of the nation of Laos.” The complete text of the press release may be read on the internet at:

The United States is not aware of any specific threats directed at American citizens, but would like to take this opportunity to remind all U.S. citizens in Laos to maintain a high level of vigilance concerning their personal security and to monitor the press to be aware of local events in Laos.
