The M. N. Khangalov Museum on the History of Buryatia in Ulan-Ude is one of the oldest museums in Siberia. Founded in 1923, the museum has more than 100,000 items relating to the material and spiritual culture of the peoples of Buryatia. Among its archeological holdings are unique vessels, nephrite knives, precious and semi-precious stone jewelry, manuscripts about Buryatia’s establishment as a Russian protectorate in the seventeenth century, and the chronicles and genealogy of the Buryat people. The museum’s collection on the Orthodox history of Buryatia includes icons and church items from past centuries, photographs, and documents about the history of the Orthodox Church in the area. The museum’s ethnographic collection of dwellings, furniture, utensils, work tools, and costumes portrays the culture of the peoples of the Baikal region.

Музей истории Бурятии им. М.Н. Хангалова - один из крупнейших музеев Сибири, основанный в 1923 году, хранит около 100 тысяч памятников материальной и духовной культуры народов Бурятии, Центральной Азии.
Музей является хранилищем ценнейших раритетов культуры Центральной Азии. В фондах музея содержатся: археологическая коллекция, этнографическая коллекция, документальный и фото фонды, коллекция буддийской литературы.
