6th Annual World CHP/Decentralized Energy Conference and Workshop
October 25-27, 2005, New York City, New York

Registration is now open for the 6th Annual World CHP/Decentralized Energy Conference and Workshop in New York City! This is an exciting opportunity to interact with other DG professionals and grow your organization's market in both domestic and world-wide combined heat and power and distributed energy.

An added feature this year - participate in the 6th Annual CHP Roadmap Workshop and see how far we in the U.S. have come in meeting the CHP Challenge — doubling CHP capacity by 2010, and create the CHP Action Agenda for 2006. EPA's CHP Partnership is holding a special Awards ceremony for ENERGY STAR CHP Award and CHP Certificate of Recognition winners at this Roadmap Workshop. This is a great opportunity to recognize Partners for their environmental leadership and commitment to excellent and efficient CHP design and deployment.

As a CHP and DG professional, you should not miss this combined conference and workshop - in the "city that never sleeps!" Small Power in the Big Apple.

6th Annual International Symposium on DER, hosted by CADER and CAL SEIA
September 7-9, 2005, California

The 6th Annual International Symposium on DER, Sept 7-9, in Santa Clara, California. CADER and CAL SEIA hosted this year's conference to ensure an excellent assemblage of today's leaders in Distributed Energy Resources (DER), which encompassed the DG, CHP and Solar communities. The resulting partnership has produced the first of kind Conference "DER: All Power is LOCAL!"

This Conference was the premier event for identifying and discussing existing and emerging distributed and solar energy resource markets and the value they provide to the nation's energy strategy. Customers, industry and government joined together to discuss the implementation of environmentally compatible, affordable, reliable and efficient distributed energy resources into our communities. It featured keynote addresses by prominent utility, industry, energy customers and government leaders in distributed and solar energy as well as informative and provocative panels addressing the key policy, commercialization and technology issues and opportunities facing the widespread deployment of DER and solar energy at the federal, state, regional and local levels.

Utilities, consumers, regulators and society all have a stake in improvements in DER and Solar connectivity and market access. The wrap-up session brought stakeholders together to discuss action to advance further deployment and potential pitfalls in what was a spirited debate.

Workshop: CHP and Bioenergy for Landfills and Wastewater Treatment Plants
August 11, 2005, Salt Lake City

The Intermountain Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Center hosted a workshop on generating renewable energy and heat from wastewater treatment plants and landfills.

Generating renewable energy and heat from methane (produced as a by-product at landfills and many wastewater treatment plants) leads to efficiency gains, other environmental benefits, potentially lower energy bills, greater energy reliability, greater self-reliance, and a profitable use of an otherwise-wasted resource.

This educational, how-to workshop was designed to give landfill and wastewater treatment plant owners and operators the information and tools they need to effectively evaluate if CHP is right for their facilities at this time. Other attendees included municipal, county, and state officials; project developers; equipment suppliers; municipal utilities; investor-owned utilities, rural electric co-ops; and environmental, renewable energy, and energy efficiency groups.

The workshop presented a step-by-step guide to designing and operating a project successfully. It also discussed equipment options, fuel clean-up and conditioning, regulatory issues, and financial incentives. The workshop included special considerations for small-to-medium plants/landfills and special considerations for landfills in areas with low precipitation.
