Checking out the Rotating Chair
|
Image Description: |
The left half of this image depicts the Rotating Chair, the major hardware item flown on board International Microgravity Spacelab (IML-1) for the "Microgravity Vestibular Investigations (MVI)" experiment. The Rotating chair provided acceleration stimuli along different axis (subjects' yaw, pitch and roll), with different velocities (step, sinusoid, and pseudorandom). European Payload Specialist Ulf Merbold is checking the function of the chair before experiment operations begin. Evaluations like this were performed before each session to ensure proper data collection.
