The Honorable Norman Mineta Secretary of Transportation United States Department of Transportation 400 Seventh Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20590 Re: Docket OST-2000-7181 (US Airways service to San Francisco & San Juan) Re: Docket OST-2000-7182 (US Airways service to Chattanooga, Asheville & Wilmington) Dear Secretary Mineta: As a customer of US Airways, I am writing to express my strong support for US Airways’ application to provide nonstop service between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and San Juan, San Francisco, Asheville and Chattanooga. In addition, I wish to have US Airways receive permanent exemptions to serve Wilmington, NC to Reagan National. It is important for me as a frequent flyer member to have consistent service to and from Reagan Washington National Airport. US Airways is my carrier of choice, and they are undoubtedly going to provide reliable and consistent service between these cities and Reagan Washington National Airport. As Washington, DC’s hometown carrier, US Airways has developed and invested its personnel and capital resources at Washington’s close-in airport over the years, and was the foremost among carriers in re-establishing service at Reagan National. The company’s proposal to serve San Francisco and San Juan from Reagan National would not only provide the most extensive consumer and competitive network benefits, but it would also enhance the overall structure of air transportation offerings in multiple markets to a greater extent than any other applicant. Both the San Juan and San Francisco service would be the first ever nonstop flights from Reagan National to these destinations and would provide me with added convenience and time savings for travel to and from downtown Washington, D.C., versus connecting service or even nonstop service from Washington Dulles or Baltimore Washington International Airports. The nonstop service between Chattanooga, Asheville and Wilmington is an obvious convenience compared to the connections provided today. Mr. Secretary, as a frequent flyer of the U.S. airport transportation system, I appreciate the opportunity to have a voice in what airlines receive access to Reagan Washington National. I ask that you approve US Airways’ applications for these new routes. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Hadley Rowland
