First of all, the reason that they are prescription is to be sure that doctors evaluate the drugs based on individual needs and individual medical situation. Secondly, in these times of expensive drugs, it is unconscionable that the cost of drugs would be further increased by expensive advertising which is very simplistic and downplays possible side effects.
