Instrument Mentor Monthly Summary Report for METTWR: 01/2005
1. Data Review:
10m level: all data missing for entire month of January.
40m level: all wind speed and direction data missing for entire month of January.
-C1 UltraSonic wind sensor data spikes occurred on 01/04 - 06, 08 – 10 and 13 – 16.
-A daily self-test by the chilled mirror causes data from it to be incorrect once a day. See NSA08a.bmp. Although when temps are below 0 Deg C this does not occur.
-C1 QLI data collection problems are very infrequent (T/RH and WS/WD data) but have continued to be a problem especially in the wind speed data at different levels, see NSA09b.bmp.

2. Instrument Performance Issues and Trends:
-The Present Weather Sensor at the Barrow site is at a temporary location. A piling needs to be placed to the north of the tower to mount it permanently.
-Barrow CMH, PWS and Barometer data is 1-minute behind. Currently, I am working on a fix.
-Need to finish User’s Manuals.
-I have noticed that the CMH self-test is not occurring consistently once temperature fall below -17 deg C (0 deg F). I have initiated talks with manufacturer and the transmission board at Atqasuk has been swapped and removed board was shipped to manufacturer for testing. Environmental testing showed board performed as expected. Efforts continue to isolate the problem.
3. Current Task Status:
-ECO 244 (Snow Measurement Instrumentation Needs for the NSA) is stalled. I am waiting for input from the Site Scientists on needed measurements.
-ECO 282 (Replace All ARM Coastal/Zeno Data Loggers) is in process. Only remaining issue is creation of manuals and updating the web page. This will have to be accomplished by the SKYRAD/GNDRAD mentor. I have asked whether this ECO should be assigned to SKYRAD/GNDRAD mentor.
-ECO 300 (Change to Data Logging and Measurement Hardware at Barrow and Atqasuk, AK) is near completion. The web pages have been built and a User’s manual is being created.
-P040712.1 was opened to track the CMH data spike problem at Atqasuk. Testing showed the data was being partially erased as it was coming in. Testing also showed the data was 1 –minute behind (now fixed). The CMH data from Barrow has been found to be behind, efforts are being made to find a fix. The fix for the Atqasuk system did not work in Barrow.
4. Near-Term Plans:
-Finish the Poster presentation for the upcoming ARM Science Team Meeting.
-Continue work on the Barrow CMH timing issue.
-Finish User’s Manual for the CS systems in use at Barrow and Atqasuk.
-Assist in the publishing of all ARM web pages that I have responsibility.
-File all DQR’s for the SGP sites that were affected by the ice storm during the month of January.
5. Accomplishments:
