Questions
1. General Comments Our culture can no longer rely on the Marcus Welby-fatherly-physician. Today, we employ health care professionals on a contract basis to advise us about issues of health and disease prevention. Each consumer must keep herself informed about health issues pertinent to her. The final decision regarding medications, diet, lifestyle, etc. cannot be dictated; each individual must make those plans for her own health. Given this new outlook on individual health decisions, it seems ridiculous to be required to take the time to wait in a physician's or other health care provider's office and to spend the money to pay for the visit to simply have that provider write a perscription for a medication the patient already knows she needs. It is neither cost-effective nor a reasonable use of the time required by both the individual and the health care professional. Save the need for prescriptions for when the patient does NOT know what he/she should take; then a consultation with a health care provider makes sense.
