CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION Date Last Rev'd: March 9, 1995 NIOSH TRAINING NIOSH TRAINING GRANTS Thank you for your interest in training grants administered by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The following information is largely taken from Program Announcement 123 (Federal Register, Volume 58, No. 96, May 20, 1993, pp. 29414-29416). Please refer to that document for more information. The U.S. Public Health Service is committed to achieving the health promotion and disease prevention objectives of Healthy People 2000, a PHS-led national activity to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve the quality of life. This program is authorized under section 21(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. NIOSH is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligible Applicants Any public or private educational school or institution that has demonstrated competency in the occupational safety and health (OS&H) field and is located in a state, the District of Columbia, or U.S. Territory is eligible to apply for a training grant. Note: NIOSH does not provide direct assistance (tuition, stipends, etc.) to students. Student financial assistance may be offered by our training grantees, students should contact those school(s) in which they are interested. Availability of Funds and Recipient Activities CDC awards Training Project Grants (TPG) and Educational Resource Center (ERC) training grants to support educational programs in the fields of industrial hygiene, occupational health nursing, occupational/industrial medicine, occupational safety, and other specialized OS&H training areas. Awards are made for 1 to 5-year project periods with an annual budget period. Funding estimates may vary and are subject to change. The objective of this grant program is to award funds to eligible institutions or agencies to assist in providing an adequate supply of qualified professional and para- professional occupational safety and health personnel to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
