The Rudder Speed Brake is being removed for inspection and maintenance prior to Return to Flight. The vertical tail consists of a structural fin surface made of aluminum, the Rudder Speed Brake surface, a tip and a lower trailing edge. The rudder splits into two halves to serve as a speed brake. The vertical tail and Rudder Speed Brake are covered with a reusable thermal protection system. The Rudder Speed Brake is used to guide and slow the Shuttle as it comes in for a landing. {highres} 1995 x 3000 {highsize} 590723 {hightype} JPEG {keywords} NASA,KSC,Kennedy Space Center {lowres} 159 x 239 {lowsize} 43892 {lowtype} GIF {mediumres} 510 x 767 {mediumsize} 86039 {mediumtype} JPEG {number} KSC-04PD-1031 {slideres} 120 x 108 {slidesize} 15500 {slidetype} GIF {tinyres} 66 x 100 {tinysize} 8288 {tinytype} GIF {title} KSC-04PD-1031 {type} Image {end}
