Research Project: Development of Fusarium Head Blight Resistant Wheat Varieties - Cornell Project Number: 0500-00053-002-17
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 03, 2004
End Date: May 02, 2009

Objective:
Evaluate locally adapted wheat varieties and elite germplasm for resistance to FHB. Hybridize elite lines and varieties to new sources of FHB resistance. Select and evaluate different lines possessing superior resistance to FHB by combining resistance genes from different sources.

Approach:
Evaluate the Uniform Northern Winter Wheat Scab Nursery, the Cornell FHB nursery, and selection and hybridization of FHB resistant lines and varieties to elite, locally adapted, genotypes. Test new crosses from prior year for selection and generation advance in evaluation nursery in plots infected with corn kernel inoculum spread in alleys just before heading time.
