QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF SEA LEVEL DATA by the UH SEA LEVEL CENTER/NATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA CENTER JOINT ARCHIVE FOR SEA LEVEL Station : Puerto Quetzal-A Latitude: 13 55.3N Country : Guatemala Longitude: 090 47.1W JASL # : 301A Time Meridian: 090W (GMT - 6 hr) GLOSS # : none TOGA #: none NODC #: 71093001 Contributor : UH SEA LEVEL CENTER Dept. of Oceanography University of Hawaii Honolulu, Hawaii 96822 Originator : Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia y Hidrologia 7A Avenida 14-57 Zona 13 Guatemala, C.A. GUATEMALA Original Data: analog Instrmnt Type: SEBA, float and well gauge Digitzd Intvl: hourly Present Data : Hourly, daily, and monthly values obtained by: Hourly : original digitized interval was hourly Daily : 119-point convolution filter (Bloomfield, 1976) centered on noon applied to the hourly data with respective periods of the 95, 50, and 5% amplitude points at 124.0, 60.2, and 40.2 hours Monthly: Simple average of all daily values; calculated if 7 or fewer days are missing Span of data : 22 Nov 1983 - 05 Oct 1986 Gaps > 1 mon : none Time Refernce: GMT (hours 00-23) Space-filler Flag :-9999 Units : millimeters Missing Data Flag : 9999 Existing : No Operational : No Sat. Trans. : No Distribution : 1983-1984 Refernce Levl: The data have been linked to tide staff zero by the contributors. However, further analysis of the data has lead to adjustment of the reference level for one separate segment. The following adjustment was based upon analysis of the hourly residuals, and daily values. These adjustment contain uncertainty to a few centimeters. period value added ( (hour)day/month/year ) to original(mm) --------------------------- --------------- (18)08/07/85 - (18)15/07/85 380 This series is independent from P.Quetzal-B because the two are not linked to the same datum. Comment : The data contain numerous small gaps and the timing is poor as noted below. The daily and monthly means do not show any signs of reference level shifts or trends. However, the analysis of differences with Quepos, Costa Rica reveals a possible reference level shift during the gap on 12 February, 1985.
