Content Description

Abstract: Point locations of public schools in New Jersey. School records were derived from the public school table published by the New Jersey Department of Education; the records were address-matched and in most cases checked against orthophotography.Most of the records were processed in 2003. Approximately 100 additional records were processed in 2007, and 38 in 2008. This data set includes records that appeared in the 2003 or 2007 data set but not in the 2008 table, and are presumed to be closed schools (see CLOSED attribute).This data set does not include charter schools.
Purpose: This data set was created for general cartographic use.This data set has NOT been ground checked. It should not be relied upon exclusively for emergency routing.
Supplemental Information: Documentation for attributes is in two additional tables:Schools_data_dictionarySchools_lineage _LUMost of the records in this feature class can be joined to NJDOE tabular data on public schools, in a 1 to 1 relationship, based on the CDS attribute which is a concatenation of County code, District code, and School code. Schools with a CLOSED date should lack a record in the NJDOE table.There are two points in the data set for which this join will not work. These schools, in Paterson, have the same name (Urban Leadership Academy) and school code, but are in different physical locations. Their CDS values end in an added a and b. Additional details available in Completeness Report.Users are encouraged to notify the data set contact of any errors.
