Security Notice, July 2, 2006

Country wide Hartal July 03, 2006. According to the police, the Awami League led opposition intends to obstruct road, railway and river traffic on July 3rd from 6:00 am until 1400 throughout the country.  The Awami League will attempt to close the following roads in Dhaka and at the outskirts of Dhaka: Gabtoli Bus Stand, Jatrabari, Sadarghat, Kamlapur, Postogola Alam Market, Babu Bazar Bridge, Moghbazar Rail Gate, Malibagh Biponi Bitan, Motijheel Shapla Chattar, New Market, Dhanmondi Road 27, Mirpur 10 Circle, Sutrapur Doyaganj Truck Stand, Farm Gate, Lalbagh Chak Bazar, Uttara Azampur Bus Stand, and Mohakhali.  Protestors will be demonstrating at each of these locations and police expect violence throughout Dhaka and across Bangladesh.

We recommend that American citizens avoid the following areas of Dhaka City during these planned demonstrations: Gabtoli Bus Stand, Jatrabari, Sadarghat, Kamlapur, Postogola Alam Market, Babu Bazar Bridge, Moghbazar Rail Gate, Malibagh Biponi Bitan, Motijheel Shapla Chattar, New Market, Dhanmondi Road 27, Mirpur 10 Circle, Sutrapur Doyaganj Truck Stand, Farm Gate, Lalbagh Chak Bazar, Uttara Azampur Bus Stand, and Mohakhali.
