Research Interests:

Dr. Sudarsanam Suresh Babu is a staff member of Materials Joining and NDE group of Metals and Ceramics Division. His research interests are phase transformations and welding metallurgy of structural alloys. He is currently working on various fundamental aspects of inclusion formation in low alloy steel welds, effect of inclusions on solid state transformations, modeling of microstructure development in resistance spot welds and computer aided thermodynamic kinetic calculations to describe microstructure development in welds. His expertise include advanced analytical tools such as atom probe field ion microscopy for characterization of welds. In addition, he has developed computer aided online calculations for the effective dissemination and evaluation of research models. He has published more than 50 papers. He is also the member of board of review for the international journal Metallurgical and Materials Transactions, A.
