Connecticut Receives Almost $1 Million to Improve Bradley Airport Access

Washington, D.C. - Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman, both D-Conn., today announced the Connecticut Department of Transportation has been awarded a $992,000 grant to improve access to Bradley International Airport. “This assistance can minimize traffic ‘turbulence' when it comes to getting to and from the airport,” said Dodd. “It ultimately helps ensure that convenience, not congestion is the watchword for Connecticut's businesses and travelers.”

“This funding will allow engineers to consider the most environmentally friendly way to expedite travel in and out of Bradley Airport,” Lieberman said. “Anyone who has been caught in stand-still traffic trying to catch a flight out of Hartford ought to appreciate this federal investment.”

The funds will be used to examine transit options within a proposed 16-mile corridor extending from downtown Hartford and several city neighborhoods to the northern suburbs and the airport. Several scenarios will be studied to ease traffic congestion in the area, including construction of bus lanes. Upon the study's conclusion, research on the environmental impact of the preferred option will be conducted.

The grant was awarded through the Federal Transit Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
