The Following clip demonstrates the behaviors that are observed in domoic acid injected embryos.

  • At 48 hours post fertilization – injected control embryos show no movement.
  • Domoic acid injected embryos at the same timepoint exhibit entire body contractions or convulsions.
  • Closer to hatching, 72 hours post fertilization, injected control embryos exhibit normal, random pectoral fin movements.
  • At the same timepoint, the domoic acid injected embryos exhibit an incessant pectoral fin motion.
  • After hatching the domoic acid treated embryos exhibit spinal curvature, incessant pectoral fin motions, and an overall inability to swim. This is independent of the shown chorion positioned around the head in this clip.
