Classical Indian Dance Performance To be Held at Brookhaven Lab, January 22

UPTON, NY - A classical Indian Kathak dance performance will be held at the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory on Saturday, January 22, at 4 p.m. in Berkner Hall. The performance is open to the public.

Developed about 500 years ago in northern India, Kathak dance is an interpretive form of dance that portrays stories from Indian mythology and contemporary themes. Dressed in colorful costumes with more than a hundred tiny bells tied around each ankle, Kathak dancers use intricate footwork and various rhythmic patterns to tell their stories. The Brookhaven performance will feature Archana Joglekar-Mulye, a renowned dancer and film and television actress in India.

Tickets may be purchased at the door on the afternoon of the performance. The cost is $10 for adults, and $5 for full-time students and senior citizens. A limited number of tickets for preferred seats also will be available for $25 each.
