I notice that the VOX (voice operated transmission) control on the space suits gets triggered with what sounds like clanking noises. You can also hear some of the clanking occasionally when the EVA astronauts are speaking.

Where are these noises generated? From inside the suit (system valves? or ?) or from outside when moving around and contacting stuff they're handling?

i have been wondering this myself, as have some of our folks who listen to this stuff all day long. our conclusion is that this noise is a feature of their expensive communication system and not a part of the suit environment.
