Money allocation will be held until a CIO can be selected. * David Swift reported on Telecommunications database. * Currently being reengineered. * Content discussed; NIH White Pages directory info keyed off of SSN. * It could be foreseeable to have individuals change their own info if appropriate security measures are taken. * Can be populated with UIDs. SSN allows cross referencing with HRDB. * Would like to populate database from other authoritative sources. * UID/PIN discussion * Possibility of seeding PINS from Employee Express database? * Possibility of using two pieces of employee specific info to contrive initial PIN setting. * "NIH Directory Service - Insight, Issues, Next Steps" - Keith Gorlen * Business processes used to filter information chaos into a well behaved directory of information. * What happens when two different business processes are used? * Updating same type of information in two different places * Identify certain databases as authoritative source of certain information. * Reconciling databases into a single database, deferred or immediate * Minimum schema * Management of directory service will be hierarchical and some information cannot be changed by ICDs (e.g., parking ID #s). * Define a minimum set of information to have in directory. * Primary directory function is to answer "who's at NIH", "where they are at", and "how to contact", besides its use for PKI and phone book. * Three issues * What data is contained? * How to populate the data? * What business processes and rules to be used? (Business processes are needed before data population occurs.) * Jed Rifkin - Summation of previous Technical Subcommittee meetings, assorted committees, and personal opinions * Logical Model * Physical Model * Security Management (Will be summarized in the next Directory Strawperson Draft * Tasks * Draft 4 Directory strawperson displaying Jed Rifkin's summation. * Start meta directory investigation * Minimum schema strawperson listing elements with ownership, type and format indicated. Send suggestions to Keith Gorlen.
