Comprises a group of field materials documenting Thodur Einarson performing unaccompanied Icelandic hymns on November 11, 1939, collected by Sidney Robertson Cowell in San Francisco, California. Recordings include a series of Lenten hymns from Hallgrimur Petursson's Passiusalmar.
Recordings:"There are 50 or so of these hymns which form a sort of Passion Play, not staged but sung in church or one at a time at family prayers on farms, each evening during Lent. The words were written by Hallgrimur Petursson, a hunchbacked mystic who lived not long after Luther. Each hymn is a long detached narrative."
