Description/Abstract | Gulf Oil is using a solder-glass well completion technique in order to produce heavy oil without accompanying sand.^The technique uses the solder-glass to bind sands in place so that sand is not produced with oil.^The approach process is described: first the well and associated lines are cleaned, then the well is perforated and burned from behind the perforation.^After the well is cooled, solder-glass is injected, and a second burn is made to develop high gas permeability and to devitrify the solder-glass.^The well is then purged with nitrogen and returned to production.^Indications are that it takes about a 20 bpd production rate to make the treatment economical. |
