Did you know that... the restaurant of a Spanish priest served the first "tapas" in the U.S.?

Father Luis de Lezama opened his Taberna del Alabardero in Washington D.C. on March 27, 1989. Since then, the restaurant has offered an excellent selection of Spanish “tapas” and has appeared in “The Washingtonian,” “Gourmet,” and “The New York Times.”

Did you know that... Charlton Heston visited Ramón Menéndez Pidal's house in Chamartín?

During the filming of El Cid (1961), Charlton Heston showed interest in meeting the distinguished medievalist, whose son Gonzalo was working as a historical advisor for the film. Don Ramón visited the studios, talked with the main actors, and received a reproduction of Tizona as a gift. Then, Heston went to the historian’s house to enjoy a wonderful dinner.

Did you know that... there are 43,277 Spaniards registered with Spanish consulates in the U.S.?

According to the latest data from the Census of Overseas Spanish Residents of the National Statistics Institute for year 2008, there are 43,277 Spaniards registered with the nine Spanish consulates in the U.S. Most of them live in New York (14,212), Miami (12,349), Los Angeles (4,788), San Francisco (4,562), Washington, D.C. (3,855), and Chicago (3,278).

AVA GARDNER...
Did you know that... Ava Gardner lived in Madrid?

US actress Ava Gardner (1922-1990) arrived in Spain to shoot Albert Lewin’s film Pandora and the Flying Dutchman in Tossa de Mar in 1950. She was captivated by our country and decided to settle in Madrid in 1954. She first lived in the exclusive La Moraleja area. Then she moved to Doctor Arce Street, where she lived until she left Spain in 1961.

WALK OF FAME...
Did you know that... several Spaniards have a star on the Walk of Fame?

When Antonio Banderas got his star in 2005, only one Spanish actor had one, besides singers Julio Iglesias and Plácido Domingo: Antonio Moreno (1887-1967), who played in such classics as Hitchcock’s “Notorious” and John Ford’s “The Searchers.”
