Leadership, Diversity, Harmony: Gateway to Success

Dr. Amar G. BoseDr. Amar Gopal Bose, Founder and CEO of Bose Corporation

Born 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to an Indian Bengali father and American mother, played violin as a child. His experience as a classical musician attuned his ears to live music performances and gave him a passion for classical music. At the age of 13, his interest in electronics began with a small home business repairing home radios and model trains. Later, those experiences guided his career towards the study of physical accoustics and psychoaccoustics, and electonics. He received his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and also received his Ph.D. from MIT as well.

At MIT during the 1950s, Dr. Bose, assistant professor, did research on how humans perceive sound by studying physical acoustics and psychoacoustics. In 1956, Dr. Bose decided to purchase a high-end stereo system and was dismayed to find that “hi-fi” speakers with impressive technical specifications failed to deliver the realistic sound of a live performance. This lead him to design new speaker system on which he received 2 patents.

Armed with 2 significant patents, Dr. Bose founded the Bose Corporation in 1964. The Bose Corporation specializes in audio equipment that can be can be found in Olympics stadiums, Broadway theaters, the Sistine Chapel and the Space Shuttle.
