Subject: NOAA-18, HIRS Instrument, Various command tests, *Topic*: NOAA-18 to undergo test commands for the HIRS Instrument *Date/Time(UTC) Message Issued:* 22 September 2006 18:00 UTC * Satellite(s) Involved:* NOAA-18 *Instrument(s) Involved:* HIRS *Product(s) Involved/Affected:* All products using the HIRS instrument on NOAA-18 *Date/Time(UTC) of Initial Implementation:* 25 September 2006 13:32 UTC *Details/Specifics of Change:* In an attempt to stabilize the loose lens on the NOAA-18 HIRS instrument and improve the data quality the following tests will be performed on the dates and times indicated: 25 September 2006 at 13:31 thru 13:28 UTC Test #1- Command HIRS mirror to the Internal Warm Target (IWT) and turn Filter Wheel housing heater on. This posture will be maintained for 48 Hours. 27 September 2006 at 13:12 thru 13:28 UTC Test #2- The scan mirror will be commanded to a variety of different positions, with a 32 second interval between commands. The mirror will be parked at the IWT position and the Filter Wheel Housing heater will be turned off. This posture will be maintained for 24 hours. 28 September 2006 13:02 thru 13:17 UTC Test #3- Commence normal scanning.
